Katie Peterson
Foundation agility instructor, Foundation OBedience Instructor, Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, Trick-Dog Evaluator
Katie has been training dogs for as long as she can remember. When she was a kid she would train all of the neighborhood dogs. Katie started fostering dogs for rescue groups in 2007 and still continues to foster dogs to this day. She has rehabbed and trained all ages and sizes of dogs, multiple breeds, and dogs with a wide range of behavioral issues including fear based aggression and food guarding. Her three current dogs are all rescues including two that were feral when she started working with them. Katie started her youngest dog in agility classes about 4-5 years ago to help socialize him while draining his energy. After just a couple classes, they were both hooked! Katie has since taken agility with all three of her dogs. She currently competes in agility with Sam and he has also done nose work. Loki, her middle pup, has really gained confidence while learning agility. Deija, her oldest, is a certified therapy dog and has done a lot of work in the community with kids who struggle with behavioral problems. Her late dog, Java, was also a certified therapy dog. She has worked and volunteered at multiple shelters and for many rescue groups in various capacities. She is currently employed at the Alaska WildBird Rehabilitation Center as their Avian Director, where where she trains birds, using operant conditioning (same as we do in class with the dogs), to become education ambassadors. Katie not only trains birds, but also trains other people to work with these birds. We are very excited to add our newest addition to our team!!!
