Talisa Brown
Foundation Obedience Instructor, Foundation agility Assistant, canine good citizen evaluator, trick-dog evaluator
Talisa Brown’s journey into the world of dog training was sparked by her personal experience with a challenging pup. Having dedicated significant effort to address her dog's behavioral issues, Talisa enrolled in Bell Creek Agility and Obedience’s (BCAO) agility classes to build a stronger connection with her four-legged friend.
With a total of four years of experience in dog training, including three years dedicated to overcoming behavioral challenges with her own dog, Talisa brings a unique perspective to her role. Her introduction to formal dog training began with her soul-dog Drake, who sadly crossed over the rainbow bridge shortly before she moved to Alaska in 2018. Talisa's interest in becoming a trainer grew after joining classes at BCAO with Avett, her now five-year old German Shepherd.
What motivates Talisa the most is the continuous learning opportunities at BCAO. She thrives on understanding canine behavior and takes joy in educating clients on how to effectively communicate and work with their dogs. As a trainer, Talisa spends most of her time assisting in full-capacity obedience classes and leads Hiking and About the Town classes during the summer. Her passion lies in helping dogs and their owners with individualized needs within a class setting.
Currently Talisa shares her life with Avett, a 5-year-old German Shepherd, and together they enjoy engaging in various activities like agility, daily obedience, dock diving, paddleboarding, and hiking. She credits a commitment to formal training and a lot of patience for her accomplishments with Avett which include excellent obedience, a rock-solid down-stay, and 99% neutral behaviors around other dogs.
Talisa also recently welcomed Roan, a new German Shepherd puppy into her life, and is putting her training skills into practice with him. She aspires to train Roan as a therapy dog to assist in her educational career. Talisa is a full-time teacher in the Valley, where her passion for teaching aligns seamlessly with her role in dog training—acknowledging that dog training is essentially teaching people how to communicate expectations to their canine partners.
